WORLDWIDE, February 8, 2009: MISS CANADA MAKES STATEMENT ABOUT INNER BEAUTY BY WEARING “BURLAP” ON RED CARPET AT GRAMMYS:
Today Shannon Smadella, Miss Canada 2009, stands up for something that she is passionate about, promoting inner beauty and confidence among young women. What a better way to say “it doesn’t matter what’s on the outside” than wearing a burlap……dress on one of the worlds largest red carpet events?
Due to short notice, the Burlap dress was made by Calgary designer, Danielle Friesen in two short days. Shannon picked up the dress on her way to the airport on Friday, Feb 7th at 7AM, after Danielle had stayed up all night working on the dress. Even though the dress was burlap, it turned out to be a beautiful masterpiece and turned heads everywhere. The dress was a huge success. Shannon will be sporting the couture creation at an upcoming charity event in Saskatoon, “The Princess Shop annual Glass Slipper Benefit”, on March 13th.
Shannon’s quest as Miss Canada 2009 is to give young women confidence and promote inner beauty. “One of the major issues among young women is low self-esteem, and it doesn’t have to be this way. I want all young women to know that it is who you are on the inside that counts, not “what” you look like or “who” you look like on the outside. There is so much pressure from all angles that give us this perception of what beauty is, but in reality, beauty is everywhere and comes from within.” Shannon is extremely passionate about her platform and hopes to spread her message to women across the world.
